 مدارک رسمی لوله کشی صنعتی یا&nbsp;پایپینگ به سه دسته تقسیم می شوند. کدها، 
استانداردها، پیشنهادهای اجرایی و مدارک پروژه.&nbsp;کدها (CODES)&nbsp;یا در 
فارسی&nbsp;نظام نامه ها، دستورالعمل طراحی، اجرا، نصب و بازرسی هستند و با 
قوانین کشور تدوین کننده سازگارند. معروف ترین کد در پایپینگ، ASME B31-3 
برای process piping یا پایپینگ فرایندی است. استانداردها&nbsp;به بیانی زبان 
مشترک میان سازندگان و استفاده کنندگان اقلام یا قطعات پایپینگی است. به 
صورتی که برای هر قطعه یک استاندارد با شمارۀ مخصوص وجود دارد. در 
استانداردها جنس، ابعاد، روش تولید و تلرانس و ویژگی های مکانیکی هر قطعه 
به تفصیل بیان شده و خریدار می تواند با مشاهده شماره استاندارد ساخت هر 
قطعه روی آن به ویژگی های آن پی ببرد. به عنوان مثال در ایران استاندارد 
پذیرفته شده برای لوله های درزدار API 5L یا برای فلنج ها ASME B15-6 می

کنندۀ استانداردها و کدها تولید می شود ولی عمل به آنها اختیاری است. مثلا 
API 656 در مورد نصب پمپ ها یک پیشنهاد اجرایی است. با این حال به توصیه 
های آن عمل می شود.&nbsp;مدارک پروژه&nbsp;مختص همان پروژه است و توسط شرکت های طراح و
 براساس شرایط آن محیطی آن پروژه، خوراک (مواد اولیه)، سلایق کارفرما و 
صلاح دید مهندسان طراح تنظیم می شود و در دیگر پروژه ها اعتباری ندارد مگر
